In the coffee famous Nyeri County of Kenya, in the town of Karatina, sits the Gakuyu coffee factory. It is at this processing center where 1143 small landowners submit their ripe cherries to be fermented, processed and dried. It is customary here for the coffee to undergo a several stage fermentation - An initial day long fermentation, then a wash, then another dry fermentation, then a water bath, and soak for almost another full day before drying on raised beds. It is a very clean and arduous way to separate the pulp from the bean, and imparts the coffee with a distinct acidity, flavor clarity, and sweetness. This year as our coffee team was cupping through several lots from Nyeri, we kept coming back to this one because of its distinct sweetness. The coffee has such a wonderful sweetness and mouth feel but paired with flavors of ripe blackberries and blueberries, the cup is also surprisingly delicate and tea like. This limited release is the only Kenya coffee Elixr will be showcasing for the 2020 season, but we know you will treasure it- Enjoy!
