40g bag of Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha from Shizuoka, Japan.

Earlier this year, Evan and Christine visited Japan in search of finding matcha for Elixr. When thinking about tea growing regions in Japan, most think of Uji or Kyoto as top producing regions. This matcha is from a farm in Shizuoka prefecture located at the base of Mt. Fuji and we chose it for a very special reason.

Evan's grandmother, Atsuko (Nan) Kumagai Inatome, was born in this area in 1926. Though she evenutally moved to the United States, she often shared memories of childhood in Japan. It was a place that Evan wanted to visit and to be able to purchase matcha here is extra special.

Matcha is grown as tencha, a green tea that is shade grown for a number of weeks. After picking and processing, it is then ground into a powder using a stone. This powder is matcha! Therefore, whenever you drink matcha, you are consuming the entire tea leaf, thus giving a lot of antioxidants and perhaps a bit more caffiene and L-Theanine than regular green tea.

This matcha is floral, umami and has a delicate sweetness. It is best enjoyed soon after opening. Prepare it as a matcha tea, latte, or specialty drink.

Instructions for Brewing: Scoop 1 tsp Matcha, add 2oz warm water, whisk thoroughly until no clumps. Then add milk or water and enjoy!
